Women's Soccer Celebrates Sophomore Day with Victory

NEWTOWN, Pa.- The Lady Centurion soccer team wrapped up their final regular season home game with a win over Manor College Thursday afternoon. A day in which the sophomore class was celebrated each would play their part as they have all season in contributing to the victory.

It wasn't until the 14th minute of the first half until Freshman Jamie Apple (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) broke the scoreless game and put Bucks on the board first with an assist courtesy of Sophomore Brooklynn Smith (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy). So nice they did it twice repeating nearly a minute later Smith fed Apple again to put the Lady Centurions up 2-0.

Manor College was not going to lie down easily though as Dominique Calio scored off a free kick at the 17th minute mark to cut the deficit in half.

From there Bucks would take control of the contest as Sara Huntley-Jones (Langhorne, PA) scored off a penalty kick with nearly 4 minutes remaining in the half. Bucks scoring machine Smith would add to her total scoring a minute later and Teresa Yeager (Levittown, PA/Bucks County Tech) would put the Lady Centurions up 5-1 with just over a minute remaining off an assist by Smith.

The second half would see more of the same as Kailie Mitchell (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) scored just minutes in unassisted. Smith would net her 24th of the season at the 51st minute mark putting her solely in 5th place in the nation goals scored. Sophomore Jenna Bertoti (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) would add to the score seconds later off an assist from fellow sophomore Gabriella Torres (Levittown, PA/Faith Baptist Christian) putting Bucks up 8-1. Apple would score her third of the contest giving her a hat trick in the 66th minute. To top off the scoring Yeager would score her second of the day giving Bucks the 10-1 advantage.

Sophomore Goal Keeper Holly Bowser (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) stayed clean for the most part in this one only facing three shots and recording two saves. Sophomore defenders Macy Moors (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) and Morgan Montgomery (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) helped keep Manor's shots to a minimum. Bowser now has 121 saves on the season placing her 6th in the nation for saves made.

Manor falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the region and conference.

Bucks improves to 9-6 overall, 7-4 in the region and 4-1 in the conference.

Up next the Lady Centurions travel to Northampton Community College on Tuesday, October 17th for a 3:30 pm matchup.
