RANDOLPH, NJ.- Bucks women's basketball went on the road to County College of Morris and played their best offensive game of the year and had one of the best defensive performances in recent years by one of their players. Unfortunately, they were missing five of their best players and there is no doubt that the outcome would have been a more competitive game.
The Lady Centurions fell to the Titans by a score of 86-12 falling to 0-5 overall and remain 0-3 in Region 19 contests. Bucks was paced by freshmen Camila Navarrete (Levittown, PA/World Education) who scored a team season high of 8 points, and Alena Kusnerick (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) who stood tall on defense with an impressive 9 blocks to go along with 4 points and 10 rebounds.
"In sports we know it comes down to wins and losses to determine how successful you are," said Head Coach Andre Bright. "But because we have so little experience playing basketball, we find successes anywhere we can," he concluded.
For the second game in a row, the Lady Centurions have scored in all four quarters of the game, and more importantly, held an opponent under 100 points for the second time this season.
"For us it's all about finding things that we did well, and accentuate those things," said Coach Bright. "For us to go back-to-back games scoring in all four quarters and holding a team under 100 points, it's a monumental achievement for us," he said.
"We know in the grand scheme of things those are small things to praise," he continued. "But again, we have a roster full of players who have never played basketball before, so we have to celebrate those small victories when we can."
The Lady Centurions also received word that sophomore captains, Kailie Mitchell (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and Haleigh Kaufmann (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) will receive their medical clearance from their injuries and are expected to return soon.
"Having Haleigh and Kailie back will definitely be a big help for us, and give us some flexibility in our substitutions," said Coach Bright. "Having a few days to have them at practice and go over things they missed is a bit of a blessing as well."
Next up for Bucks, is a road contest to Mercer County College (2-3, 2-0) on Saturday, December 1st at 12:00 PM.
