BRYN MAWR, Pa.- Silver linings are the things that are looked for when an outcome seems gloomy. They are used to make difficult situations a little more palatable. Bucks Head Women's Basketball Coach Andre Bright is becoming a master in finding those silver linings.
Bucks women's basketball traveled to Harcum College to face a tough, well coached team, and the results were similar to what has occurred throughout this season with the Bears winning 108-9. But when you look beyond the final score, there are little wins that Coach Bright finds joy in.
"Over the last three games, we have set goals for the team to achieve," said Coach Bright. "Nothing that seems to difficult, but for us these have been the biggest challenges for us."
What are those challenges, you ask?
"There are three things that we've been trying to do since our first game," he said. "First we need to have at least three people score." That was made possible by freshmen guards Ashlyn Mullins (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) and Cara Coughlin (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) joining freshman forward Korin Bradley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) in the scoring column.
"Second," he continued "was to score in the fourth quarter." This occurred when Coughlin took a steal the length of the floor and scored on a layup early in the fourth quarter to a round of cheers and congratulations from the team.
"Third is to score at least 11 points in a game," he concluded. The team has reached ten points twice in their first two games but haven't been able to get over that hump. But, in the words of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Meatloaf, two out of three ain't bad.
"I keep going back to the faces of the players after the game," Coach Bright said. "They're disappointed in not winning the game. But they're happy to have achieved two of the goals that we have been targeting. At some point, I expect things to come together and give us a shot at getting a win this season."
Harcum improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the region.
Bucks falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the region.
