NEWTOWN, Pa.- The Lady Centurions faced a difficult test in their home opener against Raritan Valley Community College. Despite improvements made in their first few opening minutes, the Lady Centurions' youth and inexperience, along with Raritan Valley's athleticism proved to be too steep of a hill to climb as they went on to win 118-10.
Trailing at the end of the first half, 50-8, a one point improvement over Tuesday night's 7 point opening half, Head Coach Andre Bright stressed that improvement during his half time speech. "At this point our goal is to improve, no matter how insignificant that improvement is." said Coach Bright. "Be better today versus yesterday." he concluded.
When freshman point guard, Cara Coughlin (Warminster,PA/Archbishop Wood), picked up her fourth foul early in the third quarter, the Lady Centurions struggled getting into any kind of offensive rhythm. "Losing Cara to foul trouble was really difficult for us," Bright said. "I thought Ashlyn Mullins (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) and Lauren Daley (Philadelphia, PA) did a decent job of getting us into our offense," Bright continued, "But we have to do a better job of catching and holding on to the ball."
The Lady Centurions were paced by freshman Melissa Heverly's (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) 2 points, and freshman Korin Bradley's (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) 8 points. Alena Kusnerick (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) added multiple rebounds and blocked shots contributing to Bradley and Heverly's scoring efforts.
Raritan Valley improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the region.
Bucks falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the region.
Next up for the Lady Centurions is a trip to Union County College on Saturday, November 17th at noon.
