Centurions Sweep Blue Jays

Centurions Sweep Blue Jays

Newtown, Pa. - The Bucks men's soccer team completed the season sweep over Manor College on Thursday, October 21st with a 2-1 double overtime victory against their conference rivals at Blue Jay field.

In an anticipated rematch from earlier this season, the long time friendly rivals were both in must win situations. It was a back in forth contest with both teams getting opportunies. With a minute remaining in the first half, Jaden Haig (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) cut in from the left, weaved through a couple of defenders then fired a shot in the left hand corner to give the Centurions a 1-0 halftime lead.

The second half, Bucks had some great chances, the closets one was when freshman forward, Edwin Bowah (Langhorne, PA/Pennsbury) touched a loose bad that went just over the crossbar. Just like the first match, Manor were able to tie the game with 9 minutes remaining in regulation and forcing the teams to play another overtime. Showing gut and determination, once again the team bruised and battered leaned on one of thier co-captains, Christopher Clark (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury) who fought his way through a crowd to poke home a loose ball to give the Centurions the needed victory.

Luis Beletzuy (Morrisville, PA/Morrisville) had 5 saves for the day.

"We had a gusty performance today against a tough team" commented Head Coach Justin Burroughs, "Joey (Joseph Roller) and Mert (Salim Salan) both adjusted well to new positions and were instrumental to the win."

The win improves Bucks to 5-4-0 overall and 4-1 in the USCAA, while Manor drops to 5-5 on the season.

The Centurions are back in action on Thursday, October 28th when travel to play Georgian Court University, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
