Men's Soccer Tops PS Lehigh

Newtown, Pa. - The Bucks men's soccer team rebounded from unsatisfactory performance against Eastern University to top one of the best teams in the Penn State University Athletic Conference, Penn State Lehigh Valley by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Lehigh Valley field.

Bucks started out extremely agressive and pressed for the opening minutes of the contest. It took only 10 minutes for the Centurions to score the first goal of the game when freshman midfielder, Matthew Edwards (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) picked up a loose ball in the box to score his first goal of the season. Four minutes later, Peter Overby (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) served a free kick in the box and found the head of Zachary Shefsky (Holland, PA/Council Rock South), who headed into the back the net to give the visitors a 2-0. The team then went back and fourth with PS Lehigh having an opportunity to gain momentum with a penalty kick but was saved by Bucks goalkeeper, Luis Beletzuy (Morrisville, PA/Morrisville). It was 1 of Beletzuy 10 saves for the day.

"We needed to win today and the guys came through" commented Head Coach Justin Burroughs, "Luis (Beletzuy) came up big, our back line did very well in slowing down a very talented team."

The win improves Bucks to 4-4-0 overall and 3-1 in the USCAA, while PS Lehigh Valley drops to 8-5-1 on the season.

The Centurions are back in action on Thursday, October 21st when travel to play Manor College, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
