Men's Soccer Comeback to defeat Bergen

Men's Soccer Comeback to defeat Bergen

NEWTOWN, Pa.- Men's Soccer hosted the defending regional champions, Bergen County College, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and came back from two down to win by a score of 4-2.

The Centurions were on their heels for most of the first half as sophomore goalkeeper, Josiah Thompson (Feasterville, PA/Calvary Christian Academy) turned away multiple shots at goal and kept the visitors at bay. The beginning of the second half saw Bergen's Bulldogs open the scoring 49th and 63rd minutes of the game. That seemed to wake up the Centurions as they proceeded to push forward in the attack. With 35 minutes remaining, Sophomore Captain Derek Czerniak (Yardley, PA/Notre Dame) found a streaking Willem McCullough (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) who converted his pass, to get Bucks on the scoreboard. 8 minutes later, Mohammed Abdul (Philadelphia, PA/Swenson) slid a ball to Sada Kanneh (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) who poked the ball passed the outstretch Bergen keeper's reach, tying the game. With less than 4 minutes remaining, McCullough dribbled his defender and was brought down in the box which Czerniak converted. Almost immediately after, Czerniak once again found McCullough for his second of the game securing the victory. "I'm proud of our guys, they kept focused and continued to battle even when we were behind" stated head coach, Justin Burroughs.

Final score Bergen 2, Bucks 4.

Bergen drops to 4-12-1 overall, 3-7-1 in the region.

Bucks improves to 9-3-1 overall, 8-2-1 in the region.

Up next the Centurions travel to Delaware County Community College on Tuesday, October 10th at 3:30 pm.
